From Times Wire Reports
A woman survived with only minor injuries after her sport utility vehicle plunged off a Portland bridge and sank to the bottom of the Willamette River.
Melissa Borgaard said she had been speaking on a hands-free cellphone while driving across the rain-slicked bridge when she lost control of her SUV. It smashed through the guardrail and plunged into the water.
Borgaard said she apparently escaped through the broken windshield and kicked her way to the surface. As she floated on her back, she said she could hear cheers from a crowd that had gathered.
