Cause Still Sought in Arctic Plane Crash

Authorities investigating the crash of an airliner on Russia’s Arctic coast that killed 28 of 52 people on board said it slammed into the tundra after tilting too sharply before landing but they had not pinpointed the reason.
The An-24 two-engine turboprop aircraft crashed Wednesday near the oil port of Varandey in the Nenets Autonomous District on Russia’s Pechora Sea shoreline, about 1,100 miles northeast of Moscow.
Officials said the 23-year-old plane’s tail section was seen falling apart as the craft went down.
