A Wrenching Approach to the Nation’s Problems

My head is swimming. President Bush’s second term is barely 3 months old and there’s a new we-got-to-fix-it “crisis” every other day: Social Security, bankruptcy, tort reform, taxation, the democratization of the entire planet, separation of church and state, not to mention the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which is sorely in need of a drilling fix.

And to think, our president hasn’t yet even approached the real crises: healthcare, Medicare, immigration, the staggering debt, job outsourcing, free trade, the impending disappearance of our middle class while China develops and expands theirs at our expense.

And, hey: What about corporate America’s increasing ownership of our elected officials?

My best guess is that we urgently need to establish a new federal agency. We could call it the F.I.A. (Fix It All). Yes, let’s do it now. Before the sky falls. Before the moon turns blue. Before we can catch our collective breath. Before the next really big “crisis” looms.
