From Times Wire Reports
At least 100 extremists trained by Osama bin Laden are at large in Britain, the recently retired head of London’s police force said in an article in Sunday’s News of the World paper.
John Stevens also said the threat justified tough anti-terrorism proposals, such as placing suspects under house arrest without charge. The government is struggling to get such a bill through Parliament. Critics say it would undermine civil rights.
A police spokeswoman refused to comment on the article.
