Miller Is Top City Player

Junior Megan Miller, who threw a one-hitter to help Woodland Hills El Camino Real upset top-seeded San Pedro, 2-0, in the City Section title game Thursday, has been selected the section’s player of the year.
Miller (20-3) helped end San Pedro’s run of five consecutive championships and gave the second-seeded Conquistadores (28-6) their 13th title, one more than San Pedro.
El Camino Real’s Lori Chandler was selected coach of the year.

Senior pitcher Courtney Baughman of Valencia, who will play next season at Hawaii, is on the pitching staff of the East team for the San Fernando Valley All-Star game today at 4 at Cal State Northridge.
The game also features players from Santa Clarita, Simi and Conejo valleys.
Pitcher-shortstop Ashlee Veilleux, who led Westlake Village Oaks Christian to the Division III title game, will play for the West team, which will be coached by Pete Ackermann of Oaks Christian and Dee Dow of Canoga Park..
Cathy Giordano of Newhall Hart and Kris Kohlmeier of Glendale will coach the East.

Tonight, for the first time, two Orange County All-Star games will be played on the same day.
The North-South game, presented by Soroptimist International of Brea/La Habra, will be played at 6:30 at Cal State Fullerton, and the Coaches’ All-Star game will be played at 7 at Barber Park in Irvine.
Many of those playing at Barber Park will be at Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday for an All-Star game between Orange and Riverside counties that begins at 7 p.m.

Boys’ Volleyball
Outside hitter Robert Pate, a 6-foot-4 senior who led Chatsworth to its record fourth consecutive City Section championship, has been selected the section’s player of the year.
