Rice Gets Rid of LSU With Hit in Ninth

Greg Buchanan hit a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to lift Rice over host Louisiana State, 5-4, Monday in the decisive game of the Baton Rouge Regional.

Lance Pendleton (5-3) pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief for the Owls (44-17).

Nick Stavinoha had three hits for the Tigers (40-22).

Texas 5, Arkansas 2 -- Taylor Teagarden and Chance Wheeless homered, and the host Longhorns (49-15) beat the Razorbacks (39-22) to win the Austin Regional.

Baylor 4, Stanford 3 -- Reliever Jeff Mandel (3-0) ended a 0-for-18 slump with his first career home run, in the 12th inning, and the Bears (42-21) won the regional at Waco, Texas, over the Cardinal (42-25).

Georgia Tech 5, South Carolina 0 -- Tim Gustafson pitched seven scoreless innings in the longest appearance of his college career, leading the host Yellow Jackets (45-17) over the Gamecocks (41-23) in the deciding game of the Atlanta Regional.

Tulane 7, Alabama 4 -- Greg Dini hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the third and a two-run homer in the seventh, and the Green Wave (53-9) defeated the Crimson Tide (40-23) to win the New Orleans Regional.
