Olympic Cuts Are Driving U.S. Fans Batty
Dear IOC:
Don’t stop at baseball and softball. How about dumping the 100-meter dash for men and women because the U.S. is good? Men’s swimming too.
I look forward to the Ugandan equestrian team and focus on rhythmic gymnasts from Thailand.
And keep voting secretly. So you can blow smoke in public.

Thanks Olympic Committee, but I really didn’t need another reason not to pay any attention to the Olympics. The overdone coverage of synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics is quite enough for me to decide not to watch it. Dropping real sports like baseball is just icing on the cake.

Baseball is a problem, but it’s a cinch getting women’s softball reinstated at the Olympics. In 2008, have the players wear beach volleyball uniforms (plus batting helmets and cleats, of course) and you guarantee another sold-out venue.
