Tropicana Bar owner arrested
It’s not all glamour being the name behind L.A.’s hottest new spot. Amanda Scheer Demme, proprietor of the newly renovated Tropicana Bar at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, was arrested at 12:30 a.m. last Saturday on charges of excessive noise.
The complaint came from a neighbor in an adjacent apartment building.
Demme spent two hours in custody at the Hollywood police station before being released on $100 bail. Additionally, police confiscated all of the venue’s DJ equipment.
However, Demme bought new equipment and the club was back up and running by 7 p.m. that night -- with the likes of Kirsten Dunst, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Eve in attendance.
While Demme had some fun with the situation, she said she is taking the noise issues very seriously. “We’re going to try to respect the wishes of the neighbors and try to resolve the engineering problems of the sound,” she said. “And hopefully the next time the vice squad will come and have a cocktail.”
