Looters Remove Items From Airliner Crash Site

Hundreds of scavengers combed through the wreckage of a Peruvian airliner, carrying away scrap metal, passengers’ belongings and electronic equipment that could have offered clues into what caused the crash that killed 40 people.
Dozens of air force troops watched passively as residents of the Amazon town of Pucallpa dug through debris of the Boeing 737 that crashed Tuesday.
Officials said the jet’s flight voice recorder had been found but not the data recorder. Resident Juan Berte, 33, said he had no idea what the electronic equipment he carted away was.
