Tobacco Firms Sued Over Medicare Bills

An advocacy organization for the elderly sued five tobacco companies, seeking to recover billions of dollars spent on smoking-related diseases by Medicare, the U.S. health insurance plan for the elderly and disabled.
The group, the United Seniors Assn. Inc., said in its complaint filed in Boston federal court that cigarette makers sold an addictive, dangerous drug.
