Pakistani Man Reportedly Kills Sister

LAHORE, Pakistan — Pakistani police arrested a man who they said killed his sister Monday outside a court in Lahore where she defended her decision to marry the husband of her choosing.
The father of Asma Ali, 21, had filed a complaint against his daughter’s husband after their marriage two months ago, accusing him of kidnapping her.
The complaint was dismissed by a lower court and rejected again on appeal Monday in Lahore’s high court. In court, Ali had said she married out of her own choice and asked to be allowed to live with her husband.
After the verdict, three men -- believed to be two of Ali’s brothers and a friend -- opened fire on Ali, her husband, her mother-in-law and two other female relatives as they walked outside the court. Ali died instantly. Her female relatives were injured, but her husband was unhurt.
Usman Anwar, a police superintendent, said people on the street overpowered one of the brothers, Haider Ali, and handed him to police. He faces murder charges. Police were looking for the other two men, Anwar said.
