A how-to reference for renters
Looking for consumer information about renting? The California Apartment Assn. began distributing a new consumer education guide last week intended to help first-time and established renters understand the rental process.
Titled “Renting -- A User Manual,” the 16-page brochure outlines the rights and responsibilities of renters and landlords, provides tips for finding the right apartment and offers guidelines for moving in and out.
The guide also includes listings of state and local housing agencies consumers can call if they have questions or concerns, and a glossary to explain the common terms used in most leases and rental agreements. Copies of the brochure are available in English and Spanish.
The trade group’s members will be distributing copies of the informational guide as part of the application process for new apartments.
Copies are also available online at www.caanet.org. Click the “Residents” button on the lower left side of the website.
