From Times Wire Reports
Shark warnings were posted along Avila and Pismo beaches after a shark attacked a surfer, who was knocked into the water when the 12-foot shark, thought to be a great white, bit his surfboard.
Ben Ikola, 16, of Orcutt was attacked south of the Pismo pier on Saturday afternoon.
Lifeguards will patrol Avila until the five-day shark alert period ends Thursday. A shark killed a woman off Avila Beach last year.
