FEAT OF THE WEEK
I’m back from Death Valley, where my girlfriend, Susan, and I spent some time on sand dunes. We just couldn’t leave unless we summited the tallest dune. Getting there involved hiking over many “sand waves.” The deeper we went, the more stark and surreal the environment became -- nothing but blinding sand and blue sky. Those who reach the top dune are afforded a gorgeous view [like the one below] in which Susan captured me descending and wondering, of all things, where I’d parked the car.
