French President’s Visit Is First in 50 Years

French President Jacques Chirac, on the first visit to Libya by a French head of state in more than half a century, met for an hour in Tripoli with leader Col. Moammar Kadafi.
Chirac discussed the business opportunities for France in the oil-rich North African nation. He also said France was planning to build a new embassy in Tripoli.
