Off-Duty Officer Shoots Man Firing on Party

An off-duty Los Angeles police officer shot and wounded a man who opened fire on Halloween partygoers early Sunday after being asked to leave, police said.
Mario Lopez, 19, of Los Angeles was reported in critical condition at Simi Valley Hospital, said Sgt. Ron Lompart, a spokesman for the Simi Valley Police Department.
Another man, William Ortiz, was in fair condition with a wound in the jaw.
The shootings occurred about 12:30 a.m. on the 4500 block of Barnard Street. The off-duty LAPD officer was questioned and released, Lompart said.
