A reporter, not a hero

Tony PERRY’S narrative of his hospitalization in Iraq is amazing (“The Day I Hit the Wall,” May 28). Here we have a 57-year-old, out-of-shape reporter taking up space in a military hospital during a war, with a self-serving attitude, matter-of-factly discussing his situation.
By his own actions and omissions, he caused his inability to keep up with the grunts. Not one word of thanks for the diligent care he received. Since he caused his predicament and we, the taxpayers, are footing the bill, it is strange that the story emerges with this slant.
However, it really typifies The Times’ position in the Iraq conflict: Never say anything good about anything that has happened over there.
