Mayor, Officials Protest Housing Aid Cuts

Mayor James K. Hahn joined City Council members and housing advocates on the City Hall steps Wednesday to protest the Bush administration’s plans to cut more than $1 billion from a rental assistance program.
“Every government is facing a tough budget,” the mayor said, criticizing plans to revise the formula for Section 8 vouchers, which he said would leave 13,000 Los Angeles families without housing assistance. “We didn’t balance our budget on the backs of children or throw people out on the street.”
