An Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday as the man walked along the railroad tracks near an Oxnard intersection.
The victim was killed about 9 a.m. on the tracks south of Buckaroo Avenue and Winchester Drive, police said.
The man’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
The train’s engineer sounded the horn and tried to stop the train, which was traveling at 50 mph, but was unable to do so, police said.
The Amtrak engineer told authorities that the victim made no effort to get off the tracks and appeared as if he did not hear the train coming.
The train was en route to Goleta with approximately 30 passengers. No one else was hurt.
An investigation is continuing, police said.
