San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 19-year-old man Saturday in connection with the shooting death of an Army paratrooper in Victorville, authorities said.
Jaquin Soliz of Victorville was arrested in the slaying of Daniel Maldonado, who was killed in a drive-by shooting last Wednesday outside his mother’s home, a sheriff’s spokesperson said.
Maldonado, 20, was sitting on the porch with his girlfriend and two other friends when he got in an argument with an unidentified male. A car pulled up moments later and one of the passengers shot Maldonado in the chest. He died minutes later in his mother’s garage.
At the time, detectives said they did not think the incident was related to gangs or drugs.
Soliz is scheduled to be arraigned today in San Bernardino Superior Court in Victorville.
