Dos Pueblos’ Beal Honored by CIF

Danny Beal, the Southern Section boys’ swimming champion in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly, has been chosen the California Interscholastic Federation’s boys’ scholar-athlete of the year.
Beal, a Goleta Dos Pueblos senior who will attend Stanford on a swim scholarship, is a member of the National Honor Society and the California Scholarship Federation. He was a National Merit Scholarship finalist this year. He scored 1520 on the SAT and has a 4.65 grade-point average.
Established in 1982, the scholar-athlete award recognizes student excellence in the classroom, in athletics and for community service.
Beal is active in Habitat for Humanity as well as in his church and a school-beautification effort at Dos Pueblos, which won the Division I title in boys’ swimming.
Whitney Johnson of South Bakersfield was the girls’ award winner.

Girls’ Basketball
San Clemente senior Lindsey Pluimer, who will play next year at UCLA, has accepted an invitation from USA Basketball to attend the Women’s Junior National Team trials June 20-23 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Three juniors, Erika Arriaran of Norco, April Phillips of Long Beach Poly and Ashlee Trebilcock, of Newhall Hart have been selected to the West team for USA Basketball’s Youth Development Festival June 16-20 in Colorado Springs.
