Re “Schools Push for Higher Attendance,” July 9: Every teacher knows that attendance is the major key to academic achievement. Last year, the LAUSD categorically canceled all school attendance policies that linked attendance to grades. Attendance plummeted. What a surprise.
It’s time for the district to rectify this mistake, and, in the future, the people sitting in offices downtown need to consult school sites, where people actually work with students, before playing fast and loose with policies that work.
