One Protester Dies in Clash With Police

Police opened fire on protesters in western Kenya, killing at least one person and wounding several others who took to the streets to demand the enactment of a new constitution, officials said.
The clashes followed similar weekend protests in the capital, Nairobi, where police armed with tear gas and water cannons fought running battles with hundreds of people in the worst street clashes since President Mwai Kibaki came to power in December 2002.
Kibaki’s decision to delay the enactment of a new constitution beyond a June 30 deadline angered Kenyans already disappointed with the slow pace of change.
