From Times Staff and Wire Reports

An 18-month-old Santa Ana girl was hospitalized in serious condition Monday with face and head wounds after the family’s 90-pound pit bull attacked her in the home, police said.

The child’s mother, Nhouka Vange, 24, had just stepped out of the room when the dog attacked the toddler shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

The girl suffered serious damage to her right eye and deep facial wounds. She underwent reconstructive surgery.
