Gasoline Prices Continue to Climb
Pump prices in California climbed for the fourth straight week, rising 3.6 cents to a statewide average of $1.726 for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline, according to a federal survey.
Including the latest increase, retail gasoline prices in California have jumped 13.1 cents a gallon in January, according to the Energy Information Administration, an arm of the U.S. Energy Department.
Boosted in part by the high price of crude oil, the base ingredient for gasoline, prices have been moving up across the country. In the week ended Monday, nationwide prices rose 2.7 cents to an average of $1.622 a gallon for regular.
