Panel Delays Proposal on Beach Smoking Ban

The Parks and Recreation Commission did not vote late Tuesday on whether to recommend to the City Council that smoking cigars and cigarettes be banned at city beaches, the pier and possibly parks.
Instead, the commission agreed to do more research and solicit residents’ opinions before making any decisions, said Bruce Wegner, director of beaches, parks and recreation.
He said the City Council could consider the matter at a meeting next month.
