Ventura police detectives Tuesday were searching for a man who sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman a day earlier.
The victim was using a pay telephone near Alameda Avenue and Ventura Boulevard about 7 p.m. Monday when a man pulled up and offered her a ride, authorities said.
The man drove the woman to an area in the 2800 block of Sherwin Avenue, where he attacked her. The woman was able to escape and summon help from a resident as the man fled.
The suspect was described as dark-skinned, possibly Middle Eastern, 5 feet 9, and with a medium build. He appeared to be in his late 30s or early 40s and was wearing a black shirt and black pants, and driving a red pickup truck.
Anyone with information should call detectives at 339-4465.
