Doctors Gave Woman 8 New Organs at Once
From Times Wire Reports
German doctors have completed Europe’s first simultaneous transplant of eight vital organs. A woman identified only as Stefanie H., 36, got a new liver, pancreas, stomach, duodenum, small intestine, partial large intestine, kidney and adrenal gland in surgery that lasted 12 hours. She suffered from Crohn’s disease.
Doctors had held off announcing the November surgery to make sure it was successful.
Dr. Andreas Paschner said the operation had only been attempted twice before, in the United States.
