Frank Mantooth, 56; Albums Earned 11 Grammy Nominations
Frank Mantooth, 56, who earned 11 Grammy nominations for five albums he recorded, died Friday in Garden City, Kan., of what a coroner described as natural causes.
Mantooth earned a bachelor’s in music from North Texas State University and contributed arrangements as a member of the Air Force Academy Falconaires from 1969-73. He spent seven years in Austria, earning a degree in piano from the Vienna Hochschule fur Musik.
Since 1978, Mantooth had published more than 165 works for combo and jazz ensembles.
He also wrote music for Doc Severinsen, the Kansas City Symphony and the Madison Symphony Orchestra.
