City to Pay $26.8 Million to Settle Bias Lawsuit

The city of New York has agreed to pay $26.8 million to settle a federal class-action lawsuit filed by Latino police officers who alleged that minorities faced discrimination on the job.
The settlement means that the approximately 12,000 black and Latino members of the Police Department could be eligible for damages ranging from $3,500 to $400,000 each.
