Thoroughfare Sinkhole Is Filled With Sand

It took 1,282 truckloads of sand, but a 225-foot-wide sinkhole that opened in Deltona -- forcing some people to leave their homes as a precaution -- has been filled.
An estimated 25,640 cubic yards of sand were used to plug the 50-foot-deep hole on Howland Boulevard, a major thoroughfare in the community halfway between Orlando and Daytona Beach.
