No Verdict for Accused Human Smugglers

Jurors completed a full day of deliberations in Houston without reaching a verdict in the first trial connected to a deadly human-smuggling attempt.
Victor Jesus Rodriguez and Fredy Giovanni Garcia-Tobar are accused of taking part in a smuggling ring that prosecutors say packed more than 70 illegal immigrants into a hot, airless tractor-trailer and tried to take them from south Texas to Houston in May 2003.
Nineteen of the immigrants died.
