How the night stays young
Las Palmas was the site of some wee-hours revelry Monday, when such bands as Sum 41 and Pennywise decided to have a last-minute post-KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas bash. Las Palmas owner Loyal Pennings was awakened by a 2:45 a.m. phone call from Pennywise drummer Byron McMackin, who told him various post-show bands were getting kicked out of their hotel rooms at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood and needed a place to party down. Sure enough, by 3 a.m., limos were cruising to the famed Mexican-themed nightspot, which continued poppin’ long after the sun came up.... The Hermosa Beach nightclub Pointe 705 is hosting “Black Market,” a tubular art, photo and fashion showcase Saturday featuring work from South Bay musicians, tattoo artists, pro skaters and surfers. Among those contributing art are members of the Deviates, Lunacy, STD’s and Shotblue, which is also scheduled to perform.... In more bizarre bazaar news, Wax Poetic in Burbank is hosting a DJ-driven book bash at 8 p.m. Saturday. Titled “The Alternative Holiday Book Bazaar,” the event includes dozens of local underground authors and a few bestselling ones, i.e. “Etiquette for Outlaws” auteurs David Wollock and Rob Cohen, whose latest joint opus, “Been There, Done That!” is a guide to partying like a rock star.

A good skooling
Last week’s performance by Metal Skool at the Roxy brought out such rock ‘n’ roll luminaries as Perry Farrell, Flea, Tom Morello, Paul Oakenfold and AFI’s Davey Havok, who joined the comedic goofballs in singing Motley Crue’s “Shout at the Devil.” Was it kismet? Earlier that night, the real Crue played the Palladium.... Rapper-actress Eve hosted a star-drenched bash Tuesday at Nacional for the new fashion line People’s Liberation. Among the party people were Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Eva Longoria.... Last week’s surprise performance by John Mayer at the Viper Room brought out such revelers as Lara Flynn Boyle, Frankie Muniz (hey, he ain’t 21), Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and famed parental unit Joe Simpson....
Partners Lee Maen, Philip Cummins, Michael Cardenas and Craig Katz of Innovative Dining Group (owners of Sushi Roku and Katana) are opening a second BOA, at 101 Santa Monica Blvd.

Get it in gear
We hear the “Nightclub on Wheels,” a stretch Hummer owned by Bob Shuster of Bob’s Driving Schools fame, is still available for New Year’s Eve. That’s right, $140 an hour will get you and 20 guests a laser light show, surround-sound speakers, multiple TV screens, pole dancers and your own “little person” bartender (say what?).... Speaking of New Year’s Eve, L.A.’s favorite new downtown bar, the Golden Gopher, will be open on a first-come, first-served basis, and every guest gets a little blue bottle of Pop Pommery Champagne. Cheerio!
