Police on Tuesday arrested a 60-year-old man on suspicion of shooting his sister-in-law and her 15-year-old daughter to death in the Santa Ana home they all shared.

The names of the victims were withheld pending further investigation and notification of relatives, said Sgt. Carlos Rojas, a spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.

The suspect, Peter Hong Le, was booked into city jail on suspicion of murder.

“At this point, we’re processing the scene and conducting some interviews,” Rojas said.

Police received a call about 3:30 p.m. alerting them to the shooting in the 2300 block of West Anahurst Place, Rojas said.

Upon arriving, he said, they found the man -- who gave himself up without a struggle -- and the two victims, one in the backyard and the other in the house.

The teenager was declared dead at the scene, Rojas said, but the mother -- said to be in her 40s -- was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she was later pronounced dead.

Two other people, both believed to be residents, were also found in the house, as well as a handgun and another firearm. “We have not yet determined if the guns were involved,” Rojas said.

Neighbors said the family members were quiet and kept to themselves.

Marisol Travis, 21, said she was on the phone when the gunfire erupted. “I heard three shots and then dogs barking,” she said.

Armando Ochoa, 18, who moved into the neighborhood 10 months ago, said he was shocked by the shooting.

“They seemed to be a happy family,” he said.
