Opponents of a planned 37-story building, who conducted garage sales Saturday to raise money for legal fees, received a surprise late Sunday.
After four garage sales raised about $2,500, an anonymous donor contributed $10,000 to their cause.
The money is being raised to pay legal fees to fight developer Mike Harrah, who has proposed an $86-million office tower for 10th Street and Broadway.
Opponents have collected signatures to place the building on a referendum in April. They also have sued Harrah and Santa Ana alleging that the project’s environmental impact report was insufficient. Both moves cost them a total of $80,000 in legal fees.
