Seeds of a Solution to Bear Problem

Re “Bears Take a Bite Out of Timber Firms’ Profits as Young Trees Become Lunch,” Nov. 27: Why don’t the timber companies just plant some fast-growing berry bushes in every other path between the trees? That would help feed the bears with their natural food and perhaps save many trees. Additionally, the companies could also plant the much slower-maturing acorn-producing oaks for future bear nutrition.

By planting in just every other row, or path, it would allow room for needed maintenance equipment.

Just a suggestion from an old bear and tree lover.
