Murder Defendant Asks Judge to Fire Lawyer

A man suspected of killing seven women interrupted testimony in his murder trial in Port Allen to ask a judge to fire his court-appointed lawyer.
Derrick Todd Lee met with the judge, his defense lawyer and prosecutors in private to discuss the quality of his defense and then brought it up in open court.
Judge Robin Free told Lee he could not fire a public defender, and he suggested Lee work out a solution with counsel.
