Boy Scout Council Defies Group’s Anti-Gay Policy

One of the nation’s largest Boy Scout councils has decided to defy a Scout policy of refusing membership to homosexuals.
The board of the Cradle of Liberty Council, which serves 87,000 youths in Philadelphia and two suburban counties, voted unanimously this month to add sexual orientation to its nondiscrimination policy.
“The camp staff I work with know I’m gay,” 18-year-old Life Scout Gregory Lattera of South Philadelphia told a news conference to protest the ban, which was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2000.
