A San Bernardino man was shot several times by police early Thursday after allegedly shooting his girlfriend and a hotel employee, authorities said.
Winston English, 52, shot his girlfriend in the hand after the couple argued while driving on Highway 30 about 2:30 a.m., police said. The woman, Tanija Salter, 28, jumped out of the car, and English tried to find her by knocking on several doors at two motels near the 600 block of North H Street, authorities said.
English allegedly shot an employee of Leisure Inn and Suites, Elie Gooch, 44, who found English hiding from police. He then shot at police who came to help the employee, authorities said. The officers returned fire, striking English several times, said San Bernardino Police Lt. Mark Emoto.
The girlfriend and employee were hospitalized and are expected to survive, Emoto said. English was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer and attempted murder of the woman and motel employee. He will be jailed upon his recovery, Emoto said.
