Car Needed as Evidence in Rape Case Is Sold

A car being preserved as evidence in a rape case was auctioned in March by City Tow, San Francisco police learned this week.
“We want them to store our cars, not sell them,” San Francisco Lt. Richard Correia said. “I would think it’s absolutely comical, if it wasn’t so sad.”
In at least four separate documents, police had told City Tow to preserve the car.
However, on Thursday, the company told police that the car had been auctioned off, Correia said.
The firm is allowed to sell unclaimed cars that are no longer needed by police.
