Over-the-Counter Heartburn Drug OKd

Procter & Gamble Co. said it won U.S. approval to sell a nonprescription version of AstraZeneca’s Prilosec heartburn drug.
The Food and Drug Administration cleared over-the-counter sales of Prilosec, which Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble will sell through an agreement with AstraZeneca. Prilosec, once the world’s top-selling drug with annual sales of more than $5 billion, had been promoted in ads as the “purple pill.”
P&G; shares rose 82 cents to $91.23 on the NYSE.
