Ruler Appoints Different Son as Crown Prince

The ruler of Ras al Khaima, one of the seven United Arab Emirates, removed his eldest son as crown prince, the official Emirates news agency reported. Sheik Sakr ibn Mohammed al Kasimi appointed another son -- Sheik Saud ibn Sakr al Kasimi -- as his new successor, replacing Sheik Khalid ibn Sakr al Kasimi, the agency reported. It gave no reason.
Sheik Khalid had been the crown prince for 37 years and the emirate’s de facto ruler for the last four years, owing to the ill health of his octogenarian father.
