Tax Subsidies for Middle-Class Students
Am I the only Californian paying taxes who objects to being taxed to help pay the fees for those young people whose families earn $60,000 or more and who want to attend UC or CSU (July 15)? Some of these students could give up the expensive car, the cafe lattes, the cell phone, the expensive apartment, the fast-food dining.
And yes, they could take a year or two off from school at the age of l8 and work for a year or two, earn and save some money, and in the process mature.
I support helping the truly needy student without family or from an impoverished background. But, why should the taxpayer be forced to subsidize a very nice living for these middle-class students?
