Woman Dies as Crash Debris Crushes Trailer
A woman was killed and her 5-year-old son trapped Saturday when a truck struck a sound wall on the Long Beach Freeway, sending debris down on the trailer home they were in, authorities said.
Firefighters worked for about an hour to extricate the boy, who had minor injuries, from the crushed trailer, said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Roland Sprewell. A man and two other children were in another part of the trailer and were not hurt. The truck driver suffered neck and back injuries.
A California Highway Patrol officer said a Honda collided with the truck north of Alondra Boulevard, sending the truck careering into the wall at 7:10 a.m. Part of the wall fell on the camper trailer parked at a home in the 4900 block of San Mateo Street, authorities said.
