Clint Mathis scored two goals for the MetroStars (6-4-3) and Brian Ching did likewise for the San Jose Earthquakes (6-2-5) as the teams tied, 4-4, in front of 14,875 in a Major League Soccer game on Wednesday at East Rutherford, N.J.
Washington 3, Dallas 1 -- Dema Kovalenko scored in the 79th minute to break a tie and led D.C. United (3-4-6) over the Burn (2-7-3) in front of 6,075 at Southlake, Texas.

San Jose 2, San Diego 2 -- Christine Latham scored her second goal in the 90th minute as the visiting Spirit (5-3-2) salvaged a tie against the CyberRays (5-7-2) in front of 5,547 at San Jose.
