Latino Group Appeals Ruling Allowing Recall

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund said Friday that it has appealed a federal judge’s decision this month not to halt the Feb. 4 recall election of Santa Ana Unified trustee Nativo V. Lopez.
The Latino civil rights group sued the county registrar of voters, alleging it violated federal voting rights law when it approved recall petitions only in English.
Attorneys for the group said they expect a ruling by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals within a week.
