Charger Bar Is Rescheduled for Saturday

The $125,000 Charger Bar Handicap, the first Grade I stakes of 2003, will be run Saturday, a week after it was originally scheduled.

The 400-yard race, which had attracted a quality field of 10 older mares, was postponed last Saturday after a heavy fog blanketed the track and forced the night’s final three races to be canceled.

Before the fog settled in, General Te upset Cha Cha Chickie to win the $27,750 Pioneer Derby for paints.

General Te, the 5-2 second choice, prevailed by three-quarters of a length and completed the 400 yards in 20.04 seconds. The loss ended a seven-race win streak for Cha Cha Chickie, who was the even-money favorite.

Tonight, Chicky Do Run Run, a winner against $16,000 claimers, will try to step up and beat $50,000 stock in the seventh at 350 yards. The 4-year-old gray gelding will be looking for his fifth win in 16 starts.

The picks: 1. Sixes Quick. 2. Dorana. 3. Dawn’s Moonlight. 4. Corona Captain. 5. Flying J Bug. 6. Superoyal Special. 7. Chicky Do Run Run. 8. Magical Rhythm.
