Mazzante’s 38 Points Power No. 13 Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Kelly Mazzante scored a season-high 38 points as No. 13 Penn State beat Old Dominion, 81-74, Tuesday night.
Tanisha Wright had 16 points and Jess Brungo had 12 for Penn State (15-4), which led by 21 with 15:42 left and withstood a 25-9 Old Dominion run to hold on.
Kim Giddens had a season-high 28 points to lead the Monarchs (8-6), who were 17 for 22 from the floor in the second half and shot nearly 61% for the game.
Giddens, who came in averaging 5.9 points, made a layup with 15:16 left and scored 10 points during the run that brought Old Dominion within 69-64 with 7:17 left. But the Monarchs were unable to close the gap any more than that.
Mazzante scored 26 points in the first half of her 20th career 30-point game, and finished with her highest total of the season. She was 12 for 12 from the free-throw line.
With 9:22 left in the first half and the score tied 20-20, the Lions went on an 18-4 run.
