Alarming Policy

The Police Commission’s new policy of not answering burglar alarms unless they are “genuine” is not only a betrayal of public trust, it’s an open invitation to home invaders (Jan. 9). How do you verify that a burglar alarm is genuine anyway? Call Housebreakers Central and see who’s working where? If, as the commission claims, nine out of 10 alarms are false, not answering them will only ensure that many more will become genuine.
