Colombia’s Terrorists
“American Killed in Colombia” and “Blast Rocks House Being Raided by Colombian Police; 16 Die, 40 Injured” (Feb. 15) refer to two groups in Colombia: an “illegal right-wing paramilitary group” and “leftist rebels.” These descriptions betray The Times’ bias by anointing the “rebels” with a moral advantage.
These “leftist rebels” are also illegal and, in attempting to impose their political will, are terrorizing Colombia through bombing and assassination. They are not merely leftist; they are communist and wish to take away the property and freedoms of Colombians. A fair and accurate description of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia would be “illegal communist terrorists seeking to overthrow a freely elected government.”
